Patience can feel like a lost virtue in today’s fast-paced, results-driven world. We live in a culture of immediacy; instant messages, quick fixes, overnight deliveries. But the spiritual path calls us into a different rhythm. It invites us to slow down, breathe deeply, and trust the process.
In Devotional 4 from Seeds of Serenity Volume I, I reflect on the quiet, powerful gift of patience and how it becomes a spiritual anchor in our journey toward healing and wholeness.
Cultivating patience doesn’t mean passive waiting or tolerating frustration with gritted teeth. It’s an intentional act of faith, a daily choice to believe that things are unfolding in the right way, at the right time.
When we practice patience, we’re aligning with God’s timing rather than forcing our own. This shift creates space for peace to enter. It softens the edges of anxiety and reminds us that spiritual growth is a slow, unfolding process, not a race to be won.
For many of us in recovery or emotional healing, impatience is deeply tied to fear. We fear that things will never change, that the discomfort will last forever, or that we’ll miss out if we don’t act now.
Patience helps soothe those fears. It teaches us to sit with the discomfort rather than escape it. As we wait in trust, we begin to witness subtle transformations taking place within us, new strength, deeper wisdom, and unexpected grace.
In the devotional reading, I share how patience can be practiced in small, daily moments: in waiting for clarity, in dealing with others, in allowing ourselves to heal. These moments may seem insignificant, but over time, they cultivate resilience. They teach us to rest in God’s presence, to embrace “not yet” as a sacred place rather than a punishment.
Patience also invites us to live in the present. Often, our minds rush ahead into the future, obsessing over outcomes or timelines. But the present moment is where God meets us. It’s where peace resides.
By cultivating patience, we become more grounded, more receptive, and more in tune with what truly matters. It’s not just about enduring the wait, it’s about growing in the waiting.
If you’re struggling with impatience today, with yourself, with others, or with God, I invite you to take a few quiet minutes to listen to this devotional reading. Let it be a reminder that you’re not alone in the waiting. You are growing. You are healing. And God’s timing, though rarely predictable, is always purposeful.
